A different kind of escapism indeed reflecting the deep connection between mainstream cinema and mass psychology: people love to watch a movie screen hero accomplish what they cannot achieve or bravely resist in real life. The ordinary person who is suppressed in life temporarily relates to a hero smashing villains and rejoices by clapping. This is the fundamental success formula of commercial movies. Beyond hoping that superhero movies will genuinely come to save them, they reflect the yearning for the "superpower" and unrestrained authority that lies within humans. The reason why these hyper-imaginative fantasy/sci-fi movies gross higher box office numbers than practical, realistic world-portraying films is that they feed the deep-seated desires of the masses.
Ultimately, cinema is "a product to sell." The more grandly, thrillingly, and comforting-to-people's disappointments it is structured, the greater its commercial success becomes. On the fine line between art and business, the world of cinema is an exceptional market that precisely sells whatever people desire for their soul's satisfaction and reaps a profit. Behind the grand screen of the film world, clever business calculations and engineered successes are constantly in play. The ignorance and emotions of the fans have served as the biggest capital of this industry for many years—this is an undeniable reality.
Sometimes, production costs and unexpected losses of films are covered through corporate insurance. Even if a movie fails, strategies are predetermined so that the investors' money remains in safe hands. Generally, when a film fails in theaters, we tend to think the producer has suffered a loss and hit rock bottom. However, "cinema is entertainment" is an illusion for the general public; whereas "cinema is a game where profits are made regardless of what is lost!" Because people approach it purely with the mindset that it is art, the general public typically lacks the awareness to view it from the perspective of a commercial product. This very ignorance serves as the biggest safeguard for the film industry.
