Emergency LED lights that operate using salt water or urine function completely on a chemical principle. Oxidation: The moment you pour salt water or urine into the lamp, it initiates a chemical reaction with the zinc plate. Consequently, zinc loses its electrons and transforms into zinc ions. Electron Flow: The free electrons generated by this chemical reaction begin to move toward the copper plate through the electrolyte (salt water/urine). According to the laws of science, the flow of electrons is electricity (Electricity).
A small internal circuit (Booster Circuit) amplifies this minuscule amount of generated electricity (approximately 1.5V to 3V) to illuminate the LED light. Since LED lights require very low voltage, they glow brightly even with this simple chemical reaction. This light will stay lit until the water evaporates or the potency of the salt water diminishes (typically lasting from a few hours to a few days per pour). When the brightness dims, discarding the old liquid and refilling it with fresh salt water or urine will make the light glow again. However, over time, the internal zinc plate will undergo corrosion and completely dissolve. At that point, only that particular plate needs to be replaced. Salt water and urine are not fuels here; they are merely the 'key' that conducts electricity between the metals inside the battery. This technology is a boon for fishermen stranded at sea during emergencies and for villages lacking electricity.
