Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) was the king of Macedonia who created one of the largest empires in ancient history. He succeeded his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of 20 and spent most of his ruling years conducting military campaigns throughout Western Asia, Central Asia, parts of South Asia, and Egypt. By the age of 30, he had created an empire that stretched from Greece to northwestern India. Alexander is widely considered one of history's greatest military commanders and is known for spreading Greek culture and influence throughout the regions he conquered.
